CALIFORNIA HEALTHY KIDS SURVEY

Every two years California public schools have the opportunity to take the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS). This survey provides an important glimpse into school climate, student perceptions and experiences, as well as belief systems. The survey provides school districts with comprehensive, valid and reliable data to help assess and target the needs of students.  In the Fall of 2015, our 7th graders took the survey.

We recently received detailed survey results. Our Leadership Team, as well as teachers at both sites, have reviewed, discussed and analyzed the survey data. The survey information was also presented to the Board of Trustees on October 8, 2014. While results from the California Healthy Kids Survey in the District have always been very positive when compared to statewide averages, results since the last administration of the survey indicate notable improvements in  overall school climate.

The data shows positive trends in many areas and it is important to understand that no community is without issues and problems that need to be recognized and addressed.  It is our goal to completely eliminate all forms of  harassment, whether based on race, national origin, religion, disability, gender or other factors. Safety, health and cyberbullying issues will require attention and action as well. We strongly value and adhere to a continuous cycle of improvement and have already begun to plan actions to address the areas of need. We will share information with the Climate Committees at both sites.  Feedback will be sought from stakeholders at all levels.

As you look over the data please keep in mind that some students may not have answered all questions. Respondents may also have answered questions referencing their experiences outside of the school setting. We would also ask that as you look at the information, pay particular attention to the trends from year to year.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Robin Spindler, Director of Student Services, at rspindler@llesd.org or 854-1215.
